11 Gift Ideas Inspired by Pantone’s 2023 Color of the Year

We teamed up with our friends at Ecco to to share the colorful items topping our holiday gift list this year—including their Textureblock Pot Bag
and Textureblock Pinch Bag, plus a few other vibrant goodies hand-picked by our editors. (Heads up: Food52 earns an affiliate commission on qualifying purchases of the products we link to.)

Every December, Pantone predicts what they think will be the color for the following year, and every December I cross my fingers in hopes that they’ll choose one of my two favorites (chartreuse and pink). This year I got my wish; Viva Magenta is the official Pantone 2023 Color of the Year, giving me (and you!) even more reason to lean into bold, bright tones in the new year. And if you’re still shopping for folks on your holiday gift list, this stunning shade of berry pink is also a perfect theme for presents. From splashy leather bags by our friends at Ecco to the best and brightest kitchenware, here are the magenta items I’m planning to give as gifts this holiday season.

1. Ecco Textureblock Pinch Bag, $220

This two-tone violet and magenta stunner had me at hello—just look at those colors! Crafted from Viola leather, Ecco’s Textureblock Pinch Bag Compact is big enough to fit everyday items like your phone, wallet, and keys, yet small enough to not feel bulky or heavy. This is a great gift for the person who loves grabbing post-work aperitivo, especially because they can carry it as a clutch or snap on the strap for a crossbody look. The last day to order and receive before Christmas for UPS ground shipping is December 15, but if you miss that deadline you’ve got options for three-day, two-day, and next day air as well.

2. Lightweight Water Bottle With Silicone Strap in Magenta, $25

If you’re shopping for someone who’s bound to include “drink more water” in their New Year’s resolutions, then this handy 16-ounce water bottle is the gift they need. This ultra-light bottle has an easy-grip silicone handle, so they won’t have any excuse to not carry it everywhere.

3. Great Jones Sheet Show in Raspberry, $85

Everyone deserves a sheet pan upgrade, and this flashy set from Great Jones fits the bill. It includes their classic half sheet pan (Holy Sheet) and two quarter sheet pans (Little Sheets), which are my personal favorite for low-key cheese boards, dinner prep, cooking for one, you name it.

4. Ecco Textureblock Pot Bag in Granita, $150

This smart, lightweight bag can easily go anywhere thanks to the adjustable leather strap, plus its magnetic closure makes it easy peasy to reach for the necessities hiding inside. The textured leather and distinct, minimalist design can be dressed up or down depending on the vibe, and the Granita color will pop with anything it’s paired with. The deadline for ordering so your gift arrives in time for Christmas is December 15, but as with all of Ecco’s offerings, you can also select three-day, two-day, or next day air if you’re in a pinch.

5. Bombas Women’s Gripper Slipper (Sherpa Lined) in Gondola Red, $50

My mom got these for my husband last year and I’ve honestly never been more jealous of a holiday gift (except for maybe when I was little and there was a life-sized Barbie involved). Available in an impressive range of sizes—I wear a women’s 11 and the Large fits me like a glove—these non-slip, washable cuties are ideal for anyone on your list who’s living the WFH life.

6. KitchenAid Artisan Series 5-Qt. Stand Mixer with Pouring Shield in Cranberry, $799.99

Consider this iconic gift for the budding (or expert) baker in your life—it’ll last them for decades and you’re sure to reap the baked good benefits. It comes with a flat beater, wire whip, and dough hook attachments, and KitchenAid makes plenty of add-ons (like this pasta attachment) to give as future holiday gifts.

7. The Floral Society Mixed Decorative Candles (Set of 10) in Clay, $140

For the friend who loves hosting dinner parties, snag a set of these decorative candles so they can deck out their space next time they host. The set includes a mix of tapers and pillars, which makes for quite the dynamic tablescape.

8. Our Place Always Pan in Rosa, $99

I probably cook more than half of my meals in this pan and it’s always on display on my stovetop because, well, look at it. The Always Pan in Rosa is the pinky red cookware solution for loved ones who are tight on storage space but big on functionality, especially when it comes to cooking.

9. Glossier Ultralip in Vesper, $18

Pro tip: Order one of the magenta bags from above for your gift recipient and stuff it with similarly colored baubles they’ll love, like a tube of this sheer Glossier lipstick. And if you’re anything like me, you’ll also want to order an extra for yourself (it’s called balance).

10. Duralex Tumblers (Set of 6) in Pink, $36.99

These are the perfect size for sipping water, wine, and everything in between. I personally own an entire rainbow of them because they’re durable and cute, and they’ll make a sweet gift for the host with the most.

11. Williams Sonoma European Solid Cashmere Throw in Sangria, $299

When all else fails, give the gift of comfort in the form of a plushy magenta throw blanket. If you want to go above and beyond here, throw in a nice bottle of red (arguably magenta!) wine and call it a day.
